Shibuya
Pulse of the metropolis
Shibuya is an addictive concoction of sensory overload with a pop culture chaser. It’s a visual buffet of creativity, plus serious eating, drinking, clubbing, shopping or just milling and chilling. Shibuya’s secret sauce is its compactness. In 10 minutes, you can go from a sleek office tower to bohemian backstreets, or from one of the world’s business train stations (3 million people per day) to a serene Shinto shrine.
Check out Miyashita Park, the hottest multi-purpose food and shopping hub in town, with traditional eateries on the ground floor and rooftop skateboard park. 30 seconds away are two tiny ambience-packed alleys with tiny bars. Another must see is the nearby Parco, with a floor dedicated to anime shops, Nintendo and esports, and excellent views of the hood from the 10th floor terrace. Go mad shopping for gifts at Mega Don Quijote or Daiso. And see all of Tokyo, and maybe Mount Fuji as well, from Shibuya Sky, the rooftop (47th floor) of Shibuya Scramble Square (reservation required).
Closest station: Shibuya Station on the JR Yamanote, Saikyo and Rinkai Lines or Narita Express, Tokyo Metro Ginza, Hanzomon, and Fukutoshin Lines, Tokyu Toyoko and Denentoshi Lines, Keio Inokashira Line.
Travel time by train/metro from: Haneda Airport 40 min, Shinagawa 15 min, Roppongi 15 min, Ginza 16 min, Ikebukuro 12 min, Asakusa 30-35 min, Shinjuku 6 min, Harajuku 3 min.
One-way from Haneda Airport by train: ¥510
By taxi: around 25 min and ¥7,800.

While you’re there…
Gawk at the number of people who are gawking at the scramble crossing 😱
Wander around “center gai”, the shopping street that starts at the crossing.
View the incredible construction zone in, above and around Shibuya Station, from surrounding buildings: Fukuras, Scramble Square, Cast, Sakura Stage and Hikarie. This complex project involves completely rebuilding the station while erecting multiple towers above and around it.
